The idea behind Minesweeper is to clear the ocean of mines.
Double Click anywhere on the grid to start, revealing the square underneath. This square will be either:
A bomb, in which case you're dead and it's game over.
A number, which indicates how many bombs are adjacent to the square. There are a maximum of 8 adjacent squares to any one square. So if you uncover a `3`, this indicates there are 3 mines in one of those 8 squares.
An area with no bombs adjacent to it, in which case the grid will open up to reveal more of the area.
If you suspect an area has a mine, then click that area to highlight it. The counter will increment to say how many positions have been identified.
If you make a mistake simply reclick it and this will deselect it.
The number of mines you need to find depends upon the level and starts at 5 and increments by 5 every level. Eg level 7 would be 35 mines.
When you have identified all the mines a button will appear asking if you want to check the game. If you click this and all is good, then you've completed the level and you will now level up.
If you've made a mistake that turn is over and you can click on the New Game link that appears in the notification window (located just above the grid. You will start again on the level you left at.
The game will remember which level you are on, so you can safely close the browser and come back to it later, however please note: A new game starts each day!
The positions of the mines are completely random and the same for everybody. This may mean a higher level could actually be easier to figure than a lower one.
This is just for fun. It's a take on the Microsoft game, but there's no ads, and in a different format.
